littlephoropter1.jpgComplete Eye Examinations: We provide examinations for patients of all ages. During your examinations we not only measure how well you see, we also assess the health of the nerves related to your eyes, your eyelids and tear film, your corneas, irises, lenses, and retinas. We check  for glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic changes, and changes from high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol. If you have other health problems, we also check for any eye involvement with those conditions.

Cataract Surgery: Dr. Wesley has performed thousands of cataract procedures with lens implants. He uses a technique called small-incision, no stitch,  phacoemulsification. In this procedure, the natural lens of the eye, which contains the cataract, is dissolved with ultrasound and gently vacummed away. In place of the removed lens material, an intraocular lens implant is inserted. Some patients are candidates for multifocal implants, which allows distance and near vision after cataract surgery without the use of glasses for most activities, or toric implants which correct astigmatism.

Refractive Lens Exchange: The multifical lens, mentioned under cataract surgery, can be used in a procedure called refractive lens exchange. In a procedure identical to cataract surgery, the natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with the multifocal implant. This allows the patient to see at far, near, and intermediate distances without glasses for most activities

Glaucoma: Glaucoma is a disease in which the optic nerve, which carries all the vision information from the eye to the brain, is damaged, usually from high pressure of the fluid inside the eye. Pressure can usually be controlled using medication in the form of eye drops. In those cases in which medication alone cannot control the pressure, a glaucoma operation, either with laser or with glaucoma filtering surgery, may be required.  Dr Wesley uses a combination of direct examination, visual field testing, ultrasonic and laser measurements to diagnose and monitor glaucoma.
